Tips to choose your skin serum wisely Thu, 11 Sep 2014 07:09:00 +0000 Continue reading Tips to choose your skin serum wisely]]> All of us love shiny and happy skin and we never compromise on picking out what’s best to keep it that way! If you are skincare-savvy, there is no way you have missed out on buying the brand new skin serum available on the shelf.

With our constant on-the-go lifestyle, serums offer the perfect nourishment to protect your skin from dirt, pollution and UV rays. Serums are lightweight, smoother in texture and also easy to use. You can pump just enough of it on your palm instead of being worried about pouring extra. It is also easier to carry serum when on the go as there is no fear of it spilling in your bag. But before you make your choice of the perfect serum, let’s consider what makes them perfect for you!

Just like all your beautiful dresses demand the right accessories to make them perfect, all skin types require different type of serums to keep them flawless. Let the Lakmé expert guide you in making the right choice of serum to keep heads turning every time you step out:

To achieve radiant skin: Like bad hair days, we have bad skin days too. We all have days when we find our skin looking duller than usual. In order to avoid experiencing days like these, we need to use a serum which can give your skin its natural radiance without visiting a salon.

In order to solve your problem of dull skin, use a serum which contains vitamins that lightens and brightens your complexion from within. Try the Perfect Radiance serum by Lakmé which consists of luminizing Vitamins that make your skin more even and radiant and brighten it from within.

To achieve perfectly sculpted skin: Your skin is at its sculpted best when you are in your 20s. Women usually complain of their skin looking older for their age and are usually looking for a full proof solution to achieve perfectly sculpted skin. As skin matures over time, it begins to look dull and loses its elasticity and collagen support due to effects of the sun, environmental pollutants, and stress. Women have increasingly come to believe that the first step to gorgeous looking skin is that perfect Sculpted look. Use a serum that penetrates deeper into your skin giving you tight and younger looking skin.

Try the new Youth Infinity Skin firming Serum by Lakmé which has 10 benefits of a facial in 1. It is a daily deep action treatment to preserve your 20’s best youthful look and help you achieve perfectly sculpted skin.

To achieve glossy and well hydrated skin: Glossy skin is the new trend in skincare. Apart from moisturizing, your skin also needs to be well hydrated for it to look healthy, even and glossy. You need to use a water based serum in order to achieve glossy and hydrated skin.

Try the new Absolute Skin Gloss Reflection Serum by Lakmé, which contains mineral laden glacial water that helps you obtain seamlessly hydrated and glossy looking skin.

Experiencing Khad Khazana at the Eden Pavilion, ITC Sonar, Kolkata Thu, 11 Sep 2014 05:51:00 +0000 Continue reading Experiencing Khad Khazana at the Eden Pavilion, ITC Sonar, Kolkata]]>
If you are in Kolkata and want to treat your taste buds to some authentic Khad cuisine, head straight to ITC Sonar’s 24-hour fine dining restaurant, Eden Pavilion that is hosting Khad Khazana from 12-21 September as part of the dinner buffet (Rs 1850 plus applicable taxes per guest) . I got to sample some dishes from Khad Khazana yesterday prepared by Master Chef Kailash Maharaj and I can only say “I never thought vegetarian food could also taste this good”. Non-vegetarians, don’t lose heart because there’s quite a bit for you too and they taste equally good but the veg fare is amazing!

Khad cuisine is intrinsic to the regions of Marwar, Mewar, Shekhawati and Hadhoti. The subtlety of vegetarian as well as rich non-vegetarian hunter’s fare are enhanced with the spice of Mathania Chilli, JodpuriLongiMirch, Pipla Mool and Pipal. Taking in the nuances of Jain cuisine cooked without garlic and onions as well as Marwari culinary traditions.

Chef Kailash Maharaj born and brought up in the Newai district, honed his culinary expertise in the rustic kitchens of his village. He specialized in Marwar Barbeques and served the royalty of Udaipur and Jaipur. He has showcased this unique cuisine across the country as well as abroad.

We started off our meal with Pudine Ke Sikjim and Kairi Ki Cchaj, two slightly sweet drinks to cleanse the palate and prepare for the appetizers and main course. Chef Maharaj joined us for the meal in his traditional finery and it was great interacting with him and finding out more about Rajasthani cuisine, the food that he used to prepare for Rajmata Gayatri Devi, the unique ingredients that he sources directly from the various regions and we also managed to get some recipes from him :).
Chef Kailash Maharaj talking about Khad cuisine
The appetizers were Kamal Kakri Ki Shami, a kebab made from lotus stems and Paneer Ka Sula (similar to tawa paneer but drier). Along with these were the traditional Rajasthani Shakar Para, Matthri and an excellent hung curd chutney which got polished off in minutes. I specially loved the lotus stem kebab. It was something new for me and I loved the taste. Paneer fans will want more of the rich Paneer Sula!
Kamal Kakri Ki Shami and Paneer Ka Sula
The main course was an extremely elaborate affair. It included 15 dishes out of which three were non-veg. Rajasthani cuisine is very rich and made with a lot of ghee, oil and masala which adds to the taste. I can’t name everything I had but I particularly loved the Bikhaneri Khichdi with the abundance of pure ghee and a mix of pulses, the traditional Bapla Bati, Matki Dal and Choorma – I’ve always loved this dish with its mix of sweet and salty flavors, Ram Gari Machi – how can a bengali not love her fish specially when it tastes so good and Shari Baagh Maans – mutton cooked without onion and garlic. You would never believe it if you did not know!
Starting off with the main course
Dessert comprised of Jari Phal Choorma, Doodhya Kheech and Dil Khuser. I loved Doodhya Kheech, very similar to the Bengali ‘Payesh’ or porridge but made with whole wheat. The dessert trio was the perfect ending to a perfect meal.
Indian cuisine never stops to amaze me. Every state has so much to offer and it’s lovely that hotels like ITC come up with these food festivals to let people experience the treasures of different parts of India. The menu of Khad Khazana will keep changing every day and the chef will also include other popular Rajasthani dishes like Ghevar, Gond Ke Laddoo etc. Drop in for dinner to experience this unique cuisine from the desert state.

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro # 401 Tibetan Orange – Review, Swatch Sat, 06 Sep 2014 13:05:00 +0000 Continue reading Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro # 401 Tibetan Orange – Review, Swatch]]>
I was roaming around inside the Champs Elysees Sephora store when the Giorgio Armani counter SA asked me to come with her and check the Lip Maestro range. I went over to the counter and she picked up #401, gave it to me and said “I know you are going to buy this”. I saw the color, tried it on and fell in love. My friend Chandreyee was with me and she said “this will be my birthday gift to you this year”. And that is how I got my first Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro. Will I buy a second one? Read on to find out…

A truly luminous matte lip color, Lip Maestro is more radiant than a matte lipstick and more sophisticated than a gloss. A luxurious, velvet texture that glides onto lips for 4-dimensional volume; lips are drenched in long lasting, chic color. Lip Maestro has all the color and sophistication women desire in a matte finish combined with the luminous intensity of a lip lacquer. A formula created exclusively by Giorgio Armani Cosmetics and made possible by a transparent “velvet” gel which diffuses light while providing a luxurious, matte finish for both depth and volume.

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro # 401 Tibetan Orange

Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro # 401 Tibetan Orange

The packaging is simple yet classy and the color as you can see is gorgeous. If you love bright reds and oranges, this one is for you. Tibetan Orange is a very close liquid version of MAC’s Lady Danger lipstick. The color screams “Look at me” and you sure will get looked at. I also love the weightless texture of the color. It simply glides on the lips and feels very comfortable. I also like that it is moisturising and does not dry out lips. While the description says that this is a true matte color, it is not really. More of a semi-matte cum glossy finish which makes the lips look luscious and pumped up.
Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro # 401 Tibetan Orange

Those were the good things about the Lip Maestro. Now let’s come to the problems. This color transfers and smears like crazy! Even after wearing for more than an hour. I wore this shade and went out to meet my friends for coffee. The rim of the white cup was not a pretty sight believe me. Once you wear this shade, make sure not to let anything touch your lips. A lot of reviews have said that this range is extremely long lasting but on me, it does not go beyond 3-4 hours i.e if my lips have not touched anything. If I drink or eat, the color goes away lot sooner.
If you ask me if I’ll buy another Lip Maestro, my answer will be no. I hate lip colors that transfer and that just killed it for me. Agree that there are a lot of pros like the gorgeous color, texture, finish but I’ll get the same qualities in other brands and ranges as well for a much lesser price ( yes, I mean you Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet range) At 32,50€, the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro just doesn’t cut it for me.
Have you tried any of the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro shades? If not, would you buy any?

L’Oreal Paris Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation Sun Beige (328) – Review, Swatch Thu, 04 Sep 2014 21:31:00 +0000 Continue reading L’Oreal Paris Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation Sun Beige (328) – Review, Swatch]]> The L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation could not have launched at a better time. I was looking for an everyday wear foundation that would not cost a bomb and this one at Rs 899 seemed perfect. I had read rave reviews of this foundation from a lot of international bloggers so wanted to check it out for myself.

Get the ultimate un-makeup look with Magic Nude Liquid Powder Bare Skin Perfecting Makeup with SPF 18. Revolutionary liquid transforms on contact, leaving a soft powder like finish. This foundation is so amazingly lightweight it’s like wearing no makeup at all! Just shake and apply – it’s magic!

L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation Sun Beige

L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation is available in six shades and I picked up the shade Sun Beige which matched my skin tone. I think there are four light shades and two dark ones but that’s really not enough to cover the entire spectrum of skin tones. The True Match foundation has a lot more shades.
Packaging – The bottle is actually quite tiny and is made of glass so you have to be careful while handling it. Also, there is no pump dispenser to regulate how much you want to pour so gotta be careful there as well. Since the foundation has a very watery texture, there is a risk of dispensing much more than you intended to.
Texture – The texture of the foundation is its USP. It is runny and watery when you apply it to your face but once you blend everything, it turns matte to a powder finish. I love how light the foundation feels on the skin and there is no need to apply powder to set it as well. L’Oreal does say that this foundation is best applied with fingers and I totally agree. A brush or a sponge will just absorb the runny liquid and will not give a very good finish. Just shake it well, pour a few drops on your fingers and apply to your face. If you have oily skin, you will love the texture but those with dry skin don’t worry as it will work on you too. In winter you might need to moisturize before applying it but otherwise there is no need unless you have super dry skin.
Coverage – Do not expect heavy duty coverage out of this foundation. It does not cover all the marks and blemishes but does give a smooth look. The foundation is buildable though but it still won’t give you heavy coverage. For everyday wear it is quite nice.
How Long Does it Last? – Not very long unfortunately. In this hot and humid weather, I get maximum three hours out of it. This is the biggest con of this foundation.
Overall Thoughts – If you are looking for a matte finish light to medium coverage everyday wear foundation, the L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation can be a good choice. I’m glad L’Oreal kept the price reasonable and I think at Rs 899 it is decent value for money. Would have preferred more shade options though.
I’m wearing two layers of the Foundation. Lipstick is Maybelline POW2.

TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation Shampoo and Conditioner – Review Sun, 31 Aug 2014 21:46:00 +0000 Continue reading TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation Shampoo and Conditioner – Review]]> I got the TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation range consisting of a shampoo and conditioner last Monday and have been using it everyday till date. Yes, I know people say that you should not wash your hair everyday as it strips the natural oils but I just can’t do without it. In Kolkata, it’s so hot and humid that if I don’t shampoo one day, my hair will turn limp and greasy and I hate that. I use a conditioner every day and a hair mask every alternate day along with a serum and touch wood, my hair has behaved quite well over the years. Since I’ve used the TRESemmé range for some days now, thought of sharing my views on the products.

TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation Shampoo and Conditioner

New TRESemmé Hair spa rejuvenation shampoo infused with hydrating marine minerals complex and essential nutrients, deeply nourishes you scalp. Resulting is your hair is gently cleansed and moisturized, it looks thicker and shinier.

TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation massageable conditioner moisturizes and conditions your hair. It is detangled and beautifully soft to touch. You can now massage your scalp with it.

TRESemmé is a brand that I’ve always liked and their products suit my hair type. When they launched the hair spa range, I was quite curious about it because of the ‘hair spa’ tag. That tag is mainly for the conditioner. Any brand will always tell you to apply conditioner only to the ends of the hair and never to the scalp and this is where the new TRESemmé Hair Spa Rejuvenation conditioner is different. This one you should first lightly massage on to the scalp and then continue from root to ends to fully coat hair strands.
If you have normal to dry hair like I do, you will like this range. I’m not sure about those with oily scalp and hair because the texture of the shampoo and conditioner is quite thick. You only need a little bit of the shampoo and it lathers up really well. The conditioner is not as thick but the consistency is similar to that of a hair mask. I’ve always liked the smell of the TRESemmé products and these are no different. They smell fresh and rejuvenating.
Coming to whether the range works, it does make my hair softer, smoother and tangle-free. That is only after I use both the shampoo and the conditioner though and I’m guessing its the conditioner that does most of the work. I won’t say my hair looks thicker but it definitely is more manageable. Like I wrote above, because of how thick and rich the consistency and texture is, it might not be very suitable for oily hair. Will probably make it greasy and limp but if you have normal-dry scalp and hair, you can definitely try this range. Won’t be a substitute for a hair spa or treatment but if you use them regularly, your frequency of getting a spa might come down. Contains sulphates and other chemicals but then the shampoos and conditioners that don’t have these don’t work on my hair!

Hair Spa Rejuvenation Shampoo – 200ml (Rs.180/-) ; 580ml (Rs.390/-)
Hair Spa Rejuvenation Conditioner – 200ml (Rs.180/-) ; 85ml (Rs.85/-)

P.S – PR Sample. Honest review as always.
